Angeles Flor De Maria Group's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more firewood to resell.

Angeles Flor De Maria Group's story

A majority of households in Guatemala use firewood for heating and cooking. Irma, a 59-year-old married mother of 6 children (15-30), began selling firewood 3 years ago. She also raises chickens. With her income, Irma has sent 2 of her children through school and they are now vocational nurses. The rest are studying in high school. With her 3rd Kiva loan, Irma will be able to buy more firewood to resell.

Although she only has a 2nd grade education, Irma continues to learn during her monthly Friendship Bridge Trust Bank meetings. The name of her group is Angeles Flor de Maria, that is located in the department/state of Chimaltenango. The educational training sessions, part of the Microcredit Plus program of loans, education and health care services, is very useful to Irma and the 6 other women in the group. Topics are drawn from 4 areas: business, health, women, family. A recent topic concerned the best uses of loans to support businesses. The businesses of these ladies include fabrication of facemasks, selling personal care products, tortilla shops, selling firewood and raising chickens.

Irma and her friends are poised to step into a brighter future because of their determination and the support of Kiva and Friendship Bridge. Thank you!
