A loan helped to buy mulberry trees for her tapa-making business.

Gwendolyn's story

Meet Gwendolyn. She is 40 years old and married with six children. Gwendolyn and her husband run a business making tapa [patterned cloth made from the bark of the mulberry tree] and growing crops. She joined a group of women in their village and together they make tapa once a week. Gwendolyn prepares her tapa then sells it to earn money for her family.

Gwendolyn also helps her husband run their crop business. Sometimes they hire men to help her husband maintain their plantation. Gwendolyn helps sell their crops. Not only do they have crops growing on their plantation, but her husband also plants mulberry trees to help her with her tapa making. They work hard to maintain their business with the sole purpose of making a good life for their children.

Gwendolyn is applying for a loan from the SPBD to buy a plow for their plantation and help with other materials for her businesses. A good life for her children is what she always dreams of.
