Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to increase her capital to allow her to buy more maize and beans.

Mary's story

Mary is a 21-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and child in the Mulanje district in Malawi. Mary sells maize (corn) and beans.

With her first Kiva loan, Mary purchased and replenished her inventory and increased her profits. She used the profit she earned to pay her child’s school fees, support her family’s needs and engage in philanthropic activities.

Mary is requesting a second Kiva loan in order to increase her capital to allow her to buy more maize and beans. She plans to use the profit she earns to continue to support her family's basic needs and support the CAMFED Association’s philanthropy activities.

Mary will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering 3 hours per week as a Sexual and Reproductive Health Guide, leading sessions on Sexual and Reproductive health, HIV prevention, gender and power dynamics, and personal choices at her local primary school and in her community
