Belen Asuncion's story

Belen Asuncion is 32, married, and has 2 children, aged 5 and 13, who attend elementary school and high school, respectively. Her husband sells homemade sweet treats.

The family live in the city of Picoaza which is known for its commercial activity, religious festivals as well as the production of vegetables, pulses and tropical fruits. The city is a commercial hub for informal trade in the province.

On Thursdays, Belen Asuncion and her family make and sell homemade sweet treats for delivery to retailers. Belen sells their products out of her home while her husband goes out to sell them to shops and individual customers from city squares, beaches, and tourist attractions.

Her business was unable to operate at the start of the COVID-19 crisis, but things are now slowly picking up which means they are now earning an income again.

This loan will be used to buy coconuts, milk, sugar, flavorings, molds, disposable containers and flour. Belen’s has the ambition to operate a large factory and she also hopes that her family stays healthy.
