A loan helped to buy dairy cows in order to increase her sales of milk to a local plant.

Makhabat's story

The 47-year-old Makhabat is married, with four children. She has a secondary education, and is industrious, goal-oriented, and enterprising by nature. She is well familiar with agricultural techniques and knows how to use resources for their intended purpose. Makhabat has been raising livestock since 1997, and this is her family's main source of income. Thanks to her hard work and responsible approach, she has been able to develop her farm, so that it now consists of four cows, 10 sheep, a horse, and a 0.39-hectare plot of irrigated land on which she grows potatoes.

Makhabat has a contract to deliver organic milk to a local plant where it is processed into dairy products. This permits her to put money back into her business on an ongoing basis. After learning that she could obtain a loan from Bai Tushum Bank, using as collateral the contract for future deliveries under a Value-Added-Chain arrangement, Makhabat has applied for a loan of 200,000 som (KGS) to buy dairy cows. Her goal in this is to increase her milk sales. The dairy plant's payments for the milk will be deposited directly into Makhabat's bank account, and the loan payments will be automatically deducted. The income generated by this loan will allow her to develop her farm and finish building a house in the foreseeable future.
