Betty Mercedes's story

Betty Mercedes is 33 years old, in a common-law marriage and has 2 children, ages 3 and 11, who goes to school. Her spouse is a fisherman. They live in a house they rent. They live in the city of Bahía, which was affected by the earthquake of April 16, 2016 and currently is rebuilding its infrastructure and businesses and strengthening tourism. There is a health resort, lovely beaches, and one can do all the water sports.

Betty Mercedes helps her spouse, who has a boat and goes out to fish every day in the afternoon and comes back in the early morning hours. She waits until he comes with the fish to help sell it to the merchants who come to the beach. At first the health crisis was very bad for her since she was unable to sell but now, little by little, she is reactivating it so to be able to continue generating her income. In her family, her mother got sick from COVID-19 but is now slowly recovering.

With this new loan, she will purchase nets, cords, buoys, fuel, and do maintenance on the motor. Her dream is to have a new boat to continue with the fishing and that her family is very healthy.
