David's story

David is 39 years old and lives in the town of Kumi in the Soroti region of Uganda. He is married and has six children with five of them currently in school. For the past nine years, David has been working hard to manage his hardware shop, which sells hardware items.

To help expand his business, David has requested a loan of 4,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase iron sheets, cement and other items for resale, and will help David to generate greater profits and manage to pay school fees for his children. David hopes that in the future he will be able to buy a car to support the business with supplies and add more stock to the business and become a wholesaler.

David is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like David who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.
