A loan helped to buy basic products and ingredients to continue preparing her delicious recipes.

Los Angeles Group's story

María is a 54-year-old enterprising woman who has more than one business. She is married and is the mother of 7 children over 15 years of age, all of whom have received secondary education. Currently she has 5 children who have their own families, and she is the grandmother of eleven grandchildren!

María has worked from home, because this has allowed her to take care of her family. She owns a store that sells everyday supplies, in addition to selling traditional foods on weekends.

For Juana it is necessary to invest in business. For this reason, she requests the 2nd Kiva loan to buy basic products and ingredients to continue preparing her delicious recipes.

There are 12 women who live in the coastal area of the Department (state) of Suchitepéquez and have businesses such as dairy sales, general stores and food sales.

As these women have little or no formal education, they often learn in monthly trainings given by a facilitator. Through images, games and stories they learn about business management practices, health, hygiene, nutrition and self-esteem, essential topics for their success. Every 2 months, women also have access to basic health services. The combination of loans, education and health services is called "Microcredit Plus."

Thanks to the Kiva lenders for being an essential source in financing these loans.
