Lynda's story

I am a black women who grew up in a single parent household with five other brothers and sisters, one being my twin who is mentally disabled. Growing up I moved from house to house, barely had food to eat, and went to traditional public schools. When I went to college I had dreams of being an educator and changing the way we educate our children in Dayton. Those dreams were deflated after being in a school system for 12 years with no changes, except for those that took place in my own personal classroom . Now that I have children, I drive them across town to a more affluent neighborhood to go to school, and receive a 21st century education. I would like the children on the west side of Dayton who do not have the ability to travel across town, to experience an education that centers around the whole child, and that offers assignments with real world applications.
