Lawal's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase improved inputs in order to get a good harvest and enhance his living standards.

Lawal's story

Lawal, who is 22 years of age, is single and lives with his family in an ordinary mud house in a small village in Kaduna state. In his community, farming is the primary occupation and, like many diligent smallholders, Lawal dreams of expanding his farm business. Due to the very low income realized from his farming business, it has become difficult for farmers like Lawal to support his family’s needs. This is a major challenge common to smallholders regardless of the yield they achieve during harvest.

By working with Babban Gona, this loan will not only enable Lawal to get access to better-yielding seeds, fertilizers and other essential farm inputs that will boost his yield but the loan will also help Lawal earn up to 2.8 times in net income, compared to the average Nigerian farmer from selling his maize to premium buyers thereby ensuring that Lawal can continue to provide for his family.

Lawal will use the profits generated from his maize sales this season to purchase additional farmland so as to expand his maize farming operations
