Janat's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more clothes for sale.

Janat's story

Janat is 24 years old and lives in the town of Maganjo in the Kawempe region of Uganda. For the past two years, she has been working hard to manage her clothing sales, which sells clothes like kanzu traditional wear.

To help expand her business, Janat has requested a loan of 500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more clothes for sale and will help Janat to generate greater profits. Janat will realize more profits from the expanded business, and she will be in position to cater for her basic needs at home, thereby improving on her standard of living. Janat hopes that, in the future, she will be able to become a teacher and construct her own school.

Janat is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
