Christina's story

As a young child, I knew I wanted to be a nurse and to help others. I volunteered as a candy-striper at local hospitals from the age of 13 to 16. All through high school, I completed every math and science class I could to prepare for my future career. During my first few years of college, I focused on emergency medicine and spent ten years as a paramedic. My time as a paramedic taught me situational awareness, how to assess a patient’s condition quickly from across the room, how to remain calm under pressure, how to navigate challenging situations and the importance of teamwork. Ten years later, I returned to school and earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. After graduation, my passion shifted to the underserved and underprivileged geriatric population. I worked in several leadership roles, including Director for a long-term care facility; Nurse Educator and Community Liaison for a major Hospice company; Nursing Supervisor at a Community Health Center; and as an Account Executive during the start-up phase of a nationally-owned hospice. Through nursing I learned the true meaning of selflessness and the responsibilities to humanity. It prepared me to be a leader, a teacher, and a good communicator. Most of all, it taught me how to be a patient advocate and how to provide excellent patient care in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner. Nursing enhanced my ability to build positive relationships. Fast forward to today, my passion is to provide hospice care to those who are facing an end-of-life illness. I feel it is my calling to bring comfort and support to those in their final days. I want to take the knowledge and experience I have been blessed to receive and use it to serve others.
