Orquideas De Xecaguic Group's story

Micaela is a dedicated married mother of 2 children ages 3 and 8 who lives in a rural area of the department / state of Quiché. Her husband works as a security in Guatemala City. Micaela has a 1st grade education. 5 years ago, she started her business selling animals (chickens, turkeys, pigs). Currently she also sells the meat. Both animals and meat, she sells from her home and in nearby markets (market hours are limited by government restrictions due to Covid19). Micaela requests the 2nd loan from KIVA to buy more chickens.

Micaela is the Secretary of the Puente de Amistad Community Bank "Orquideas de Xecaguic". There are 6 other Maya K'iche women in the group who live in the Quiché State / Department and almost all have poultry businesses. They look forward to their monthly meetings where they support each other, make loan payments, and participate in educational training sessions. The topics are relevant to their lives and are based on business, family, women and health. Every two months, a nurse offers services through phone calls, such as blood pressure and blood sugar checks, breast exams, Pap tests, and more. Puente de Amistad calls the combination of loans, education and health care "Microcredit Plus."

KIVA's lenders, associated with Puente de Amistad, are highly appreciated by Micaela and her friends. Thank you to each of you for your kindness and generosity!
