Carmen Gricelda Barbara's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy orders of bed sheets, clothing, perfumes, costume jewellery and more.

Carmen Gricelda Barbara's story

Carmen Gricelda Barbara is 70 years old. She is a single mother to two children, both now independent adults who have their own homes. The family all lives in Portoviejo, a city affected by the earthquake of 16 April 2016 and now by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city is rich in vegetables, legumes, and tropical fruits for domestic consumption.

Despite her advanced age, Carmen makes a living with informal sales from Avon catalogues (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories), and of various clothes for men, women, and children, and mosquito nets. She sells these products door-to-door to relatives, friends and neighbours. She sells on credit, collecting payments every week. During this global crisis, Carmen has faced financial difficulties; customers have been unable to pay as they have lost their jobs or died. The health crisis was particularly bad in the beginning for Carmen as she could not sell anything. Now, little by little, her business is coming back to life and Carmen can continue generating an income.

Carmen will use this new loan to buy orders of bed sheets, clothing, perfumes, costume jewellery and more.

Carmen's dreams are to have a few display cases to exhibit her merchandise better, and for her family to enjoy good health.
