Maria Isabel's story

Maria Isabel is 60 years old. She is divorced and has an adult son, now independent, who has his own home. Mother and son both live in Portoviejo, a city affected by the earthquake of 16 April 2016 and now by the COVID-19 pandemic. The city is rich in vegetables, legumes, and tropical fruits for domestic consumption.

At home, Maria has a small workshop where she makes clothing. Her customers come to her to make trousers, shirts, and dresses, and to repair various items. Maria works every day. At the beginning of the public health crisis, things were very difficult for Maria as she could not work and customers did not come to her. Now, little by little, the business is coming back to life for Maria to continue earning an income.

In her own family, one of Maria's nieces fell ill with COVID-19 but she is now slowly recovering.

Maria will use this loan to buy materials, elastics, ribbons, lace, needles, and more.

Maria's dreams are to have a larger workshop, and for her family to enjoy good health.
