Isata's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to purchase foodstuffs like cassava, fish, pepper, spices, onions and other assorted items to sell through her retail business.

Isata's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 30-year-old Isata from Waterloo branch. She is a single parent with two children ages 7 and 15 who attend school. She is also a caretaker for one of her relatives. She operates a retail business to provide a decent living for herself and her family.

Isata sells foodstuffs such as cassava by the bag, fish, pepper, seasonings and spices, onions and other assorted items. She has been in this business for 10 years. Her other source of income comes from family members. Her main challenge is periodic slow sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Isata has requested a loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more foodstuffs to increase her business. Isata says the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and take care of her family.

In the future, she would like to expand her retail business. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
