A loan helped to buy farming inputs, which she plans to use to improve her tea production and thus make more income to support her family during this tough global economic recession.

Mercy's story

Mercy (pictured alongside her husband) is a 31-year-old mother of two children living in Nyamira, a town whose surroundings have vast agricultural potential with numerous small farms, and also vast agricultural enterprises. She is a resourceful female farmer with five years of farming experience. Through farming, she is able to meet her family’s enormous demands.

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the economy of Kenya, causing a lot of uncertainties and disrupting food supply chains. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is at the forefront of combating this pandemic through supporting smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs in this difficult period.

Mercy is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs, which she plans to use to improve her tea production and thus make more income to support her family during this tough global economic recession. She is hopeful that all Kiva lenders are adhering to the safety measures in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.
