A loan helped to provide 100 coffee farmers with 31% higher incomes and to reforest 500 hectares of degraded land.
CAECOS is a cooperative of over 370 smallholder farmers from Junin that exports organic, free-trade coffee to Europe. Founded in 2009 by 30 members, CAECOS has grown its membership nearly 12x in the past decade by providing smallholder farmers living in the central jungle of the Peruvian Amazon with an average of 31% higher incomes than farmers who are not members of CAECOS. CAECOS provides technical support to its members, 24% of whom are women, to ensure sustainable farming practices and higher quality coffee that sustains its social and environmental mission. Evith (Pictured in 2nd photo), CAECOS CEO, shares “Among the farmers and suppliers are single mothers who are working hard to bolster their income to support their families and communities. Coffee sales drive this economic support." A strong advocate of rainforest preservation, the cooperative focuses on sustainable, environmentally-friendly coffee management and promotes organic and shade-grown coffee. Your loan to CAECOS will help to (1) provide incomes to 100 smallholder farmers, (2) remain on track to reforest 500 hectares in the next 5 years, and (3) onboard 80 newly trained organic farmers. The loan will be repaid through the sale of coffee harvests to commercial clients who have already submitted purchase orders. Your loan is an opportunity to reduce the economic impact of Covid-19 in one of the hardest-hit regions in Peru by
