Yolanda's story

Yolanda C. is a 65 year-old generous and thoughtful woman. She is concerned not only about her only child but about her adopted children and neighbors as well. Her son Nelson is a hired laborer and is earning just a small amount of money; he can’t even support himself and his mother. Due to this, Yolanda wanted to have her own way to earn money and augment the income of her son to support them and her adopted children. She joined ASHI in 2008 and has been receiving loans since then. Via these loans she has been able to finance the farming of vegetables in her backyard with the help of her son. These vegetables, once harvested, are sold in the market and to the people in their village. Proceeds of Yolanda’s vegetables farming business may be small, but her family is enjoying its ability to support their basic needs. Through the loans she will avail via her membership in ASHI, Yolanda is optimistic that someday her business will grow, allowing her to support the improvement of her family members' lives and the lives of others who may need their assistance.
