Mujeres Activas Group's story
Margarita, is 38 years old and is a resourceful woman who is getting ahead. With joy on her face she shares: “I am a married woman. I take care of my home and my 6 children. At the same time, I manage 2 businesses: the sale of cell phone accessories in a store in Guatemala City and the cultivation of fruit (apple, plum, peach, avocado) in my community. Part of my income is used to provide basic conditions and education for my children. I also take care of my daughter who has special abilities ”. With the 3rd loan from KIVA, Margarita will be able to buy cases and chargers, as well as fertilizer and insecticide for growing. There are 8 women in the Puente de Amistad “Mujeres Activas” Community Bank, who live in the department / state of Quiché and speak their mother tongue K’iche ’. As they have little education, they value business training because it helps them better manage agriculture (apples, peach, plum, avocado), textile and convenience store businesses. Every 2 months, they have access to basic health care exams. Puente de Amistad's "Microcredito Plus" health care, educational training and loan program offers programs and services that create opportunities for families to build sustainable futures in Guatemala. The 32,000 women who participate in the program are proud of the success they are achieving. KIVA's lenders, in association with Puente de Amistad, are highly valued by these women. Thank you!
