Las Fresas De San Luis Group's story

Ana is a woman who is characterized by being very enthusiastic as she has been leading her business to success for 4 years. Through the live chicken, turkey and pork business by the pound, she is moving toward expanding her business. Although she has no degree of education, she is determined and intelligent. Ana is 36 years old and is the separated mother of 7 children (5 to 21). With the profits from her business, Ana provides an education to all her children. She requests the 1st loan to continue investing in the business. She will buy more chickens and turkeys. The 8 women in the group live in the Department / State of Quiché. They dress in the typical clothing of the area that identifies them with the K'iche 'culture. They meet every month to participate in the program of small loans, training and health services "Microcredit Plus". A facilitator conducts monthly trainings on effective business practices (saving, investing, budgeting). Ana and her companions put these issues into practice in their agricultural businesses (tomato, onion, cabbage), raising and selling meat by the pound (chicken, pigs, turkeys) and selling fried chicken. There are other issues such as health, hygiene, nutrition and rights that help these women to achieve empowerment. Thanks to the partnership between KIVA and Puente de Amistad, women find sustainable solutions for families affected by poverty.
