A loan helped to stock more maize flour and beans for resale,.

Jacquline's story

Jacquline is 21 years old and lives in the town of Ojwina in the Lira region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children. For the past 4 years, Jacquline has been working hard to manage her produce store, which sells maize flour and beans.

To help expand her business, Jacquline has requested a loan of 1,700,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more maize flour and beans for resale. It will help Jacquline to generate greater profits and her production will increase and attract more revenue. She will manage to provide basic needs for her family such as food and clothes for her children. Jacquline hopes that in the future she will be able to build a house for her family.

Jacquline is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
