A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer, to enable her to grow more bananas.

Mary's story

Hello, Kiva community!

Mary is a 31-year-old mother from a remote village in the Meru area of Kenya. She is a very hardworking person.

Thanks to Mary's daily efforts she has managed to give her lovely children a good start by providing them with a good-quality education.

Mary’s primary sources of income are bananas and animal farming. She also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Meru area is a favorable area for farming, so Mary is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer to enable her to grow more bananas, reap maximum profits, and increase her banana business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially in the Meru area, is very challenging but Mary feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her.

Mary's goal is to improve her living conditions and secure the future of her children. Her biggest dreams are to be able to support her family by herself, to become independent, and to buy a home.

Mary is counting on your help and hopes for your attention.
