Sylvia's Group's story
Sylvia's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Sylvia is 26 years old and lives in the town of Nakifuma in the Kasangati region of Uganda. She has 2 children who are all currently in school. For the past 2 years, Sylvia has been working hard to manage her Beauty salon, which plaits hair, braids, weaves,treatment, retouch. To help expand her business, Sylvia has requested a share of 1800000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy braids, hair oil, weaves, and will help Sylvia to generate greater profits and Sylvia will realize more profits from the expanded business, she will be in position to cater for her basic needs at home,thereby improving on the standards of living. Sylvia hopes that in the future she will be able to construct a residential house. Sylvia is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
