Francis's story

Francis is 41 years old and lives in the town of Kumi in the Soroti region of Uganda. He is widowed and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 6 years, Francis has been working hard to manage his Boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes and shoes .

To help expand his business, Francis has requested a loan of 3500000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase tops, trousers, bags, shoes and skirts for sale, and will help Francis to generate greater profits. He can then manage to pay some of the house bills, basic needs for the family and pay school fees for his children. Francis hopes that in the future he will be able to open up more outlets of the same business in different towns.

Francis is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Francis who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
