Umu's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 40-year-old Umu from Waterloo branch. She is married with two children between the ages of 4 and 18 and both are attending school. She started this business to care for her family welfare.

Umu runs a retail shop and sells food stuffs and other assorted items. She has been in this business for the past 15 years. Her other source of income is her husband’s salary. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes during COVID 19.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase food stuffs: Cassava, fish, maggi, pepper, onions, rice, oil, palm oil, groundnuts and other assorted items to increase her business. Umu says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and her family's welfare. In the future, she would like to expand to a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.
