Lina Marcela's story
Lina Marcela A. is a young 24-year old designer who lives in Bogotá. Her business involves designing handbags and shoes that she then has made and promotes through her specialized catalog. It has been 2 years since she entered into the arena that she prepared for, and started her own line of sandals and shoes. She currently distributes these in the city of Barranquilla, in the Atlántico department, Valledupar, and the Codazzi municipality in the Cesar department. This is how, with the help of trusted family and friends, she traveled to Bogotá in September of 2009 to live with her sister. Since that instance, she started selling bags and shoes by catalog from her own line called “LinA.”, with good results. Her business includes the design, distribution and sale of footwear. Currently, she is requesting her first loan through the Mario Santo Domingo Foundation, as she would like greater access to her markets. She needs to buy a greater quantity of raw materials, especially leather, in order to make the handbags and shoes in her new collection. Lina is a young woman who dreams of growing as a professional and entrepreneur in order to help her family. In addition, she would like to have her own workshop and shoe stores staffed by employees. In some instances, she has faced the challenge of her designs not being fabricated.
