Ricardo's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped me buy equipment to clean green areas and maintain crops.

Ricardo's story

I grew up close to my grandfathers who worked in agricultural business. One of them worked with sugar cane and the other as a fisherman. They were undoubtedly one of my role models. I still remember some of the stories they told me in reference to their work. Since then I love farm life. My family have always raised rabbits, chickens, ducks and cows. I still remember the joy I had the first day I germinate a seed. From an early age I participated in 4-H groups. Already in high school I knew I wanted to study agriculture. It was one of the best decisions of my life since it is my passion. Now that I understand the science behind agriculture, I have held the field and laboratories practices that helped define who I am today. During my college years I participated in agricultural fairs and took the role of being the President of the Department of Agricultural Machinery of the University of P.R, Mayaguez. Since then, I have always given the example and developed my leadership in the agricultural sector. I have kept participating in extracurricular agricultural activities. I dream and work to be an example of how in Puerto Rico you can live from agriculture. I want to inspire the young generation to undertake in this field, showing them that it is possible. I dream of a Puerto Rico with food sovereignty, a society that does not have to import more than 80% of the food it consumes. I am working with commitment, direction and great intentions for a change.
