A loan helped to buy sheep to resell.

Bantare Lessal Group's story

Fatoumata is the president of the "Bantare Lessal" group which in the Peulh language means "Development for the Neighborhood". It is her in the photo. She is 51 years old, married and is the mother of four children. They range in age from 9 to 17 years old and they all go to school.

Fatoumata is illiterate. Her husband is a retail merchant.

This loan will be used by all the members of the group who are 19 women in number so they can raise sheep.

Fatoumata has earned a living raising animals for 12 years. With her share of the loan she will buy sheep in the local villages and in neighboring areas. She will resell them in one of the largest weekly markets in her sub-region which is her region of birth. The earnings generated by her business will let her pay part of the children's school fees and help her husband take care of the family, especially the children.

She hopes that her children continue their studies in one of the largest schools in the country.
