Avec Jokere Endam Group's story

Fatoumata is the president of the AVEC Jokere Emdam group (in the local language), which means With Solidarity. AVEC stands for Association Villageoise d’Epargne et de Crédit (Village Savings and Loan Association). In some villages in Senegal, the women join AVECs to carry out their revenue-generating business.

Fatoumata is the person in the photo with the sheep. She is 50 years old, married and the mother of three children, ages eight to 14 years old, who all attend school. She has been raising sheep for 27 years, and never went to school. Her husband is a farmer.

This loan is for all 26 members of the group to buy sheep. Fatoumata buys her sheep in the nearby villages to resell in the weekly markets held in her area.

She wants her children to continue their education in large schools to have a better future. She manages to pay for her children's school fees and medical expenses with the income she earns.
