A loan helped to purchase fish and other assorted items in order to increase her business.

Isha's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 31-years-old Isha from Wilberforce branch. She is a widow with four children between the ages of 8 and 11 years old, all of whom are still attending school.

Isha runs a retail fish business, where she sells dried and smoked fish to her customers from a table near a busy market place. The fish is smoked on a grate whilst small pieces of wood burn underneath. Certain fish smokes better than others and Isha tries to run her business in tune with local demand and whatever fish is available from the ports. She has been in this business for the past 5 years now. Her main challenge is slow sales during this raining season.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase fish and other assorted items in order to increase her business. Isha says that the extra income from this loan will not only help to improve her business, but also help in taking care of her family welfare, education and her home. In the future, she would like to have a bigger business. She says thanks to Brac and Kiva for their support.
