A loan helped to buy a variety of ingredients for her food business, as well as typical fabrics and perfumes.

Vencedoras De Cristo Group's story

Many of the 32,000 women who participate in Puente de Amistad's "Microcredit Plus" loan, education and health services program have more than one business. Catarina, is one of them. She is married, 57 years old and the mother of seven children over 22 years of age.

Catarina's husband is a day laborer, and together they have worked hard to meet the basic and educational needs of all their children. She is characterized by being efficient in the administration of her three businesses.

Catarina prepares delicious typical food, sells hygiene products, and is a talented seamstress of typical clothes and masks. She wants to increase the inventory of her businesses and meet customer demand.

She applies for her first loan from Kiva to buy a variety of ingredients for her food business, as well as typical fabrics and perfumes.

The 10 women of this Community Bank of Puente de Amistad "Vencedoras de Cristo" group are Mayan speakers of K’iche' and live in a rural area in the coastal department of Suchitepéquez.

They look forward to the monthly meetings, because in this way, they learn about business, health, family and women issues. For women like Catarina, topics such as good investment and strategies for selling products that customers demand are relevant and immediately applicable to their lives. Every two months, a nurse provides health care services to women via cell phone.

Kiva lenders, in conjunction with Friendship Bridge, help women make positive changes in their lives. Thank you!
