A loan helped me to complete site preparation, purchase livestock and fruit trees.

David's story

My Name is David Wells and my wife Lisa and I own Mana Ola Farms located near Pahala, Hawaii. I was born and raised in the islands and care for the ‘āina with all my heart. I believe wealth is clean water, quality homegrown food and peace in the home. I have always known that we import upwards of 90% of our food and it has really hit home during this pandemic. I believe if more and more people can contribute to our food independence we will have food security, higher quality products, and more local jobs. We have fenced one acre and currently have sheep and some trees started, but we’d like to expand our operation to encompass all 10 acres. Our goal is to raise upward of 100 sheep and have ulu, avocado, coffee orchards, as well as maile and awapuhi interspersed.
