Sofia's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more tomatoes from other smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her family income.

Sofia's story

Sofia is a 47-year-old Mozambican woman. She lives in Chimoio, Manica Province with her daughter.

Sofia started working when she was very young. She learned to work in agriculture with her parents. First, she started producing grains and cereals like maize, peanuts and common beans for household consumption.

Lately Sofia entered into veggie production and commercialization. She used to produce tomatoes and cabbage. Then, she noticed that the market continuously had demand for tomatoes which is the reason why she decided to focus on tomato production.

Sofia has a good market network around Manica and Tete provinces. Since she is unable to produce the entire quantity the market demands, she started to buy tomatoes from other smallholder farmers in her community.

Sofia is in the tomato-growing trade, so she needs to buy even more quantities of this crop in order to continuously supply her clients. For this reason, Sofia is requesting a Kiva loan to buy more tomatoes from other smallholder farmers to sell in the market in order to increase her family income.
