A loan helped to hire workers who will improve her production and support her family during this tough economic period.

Shakilah's story

Shakilah, a first time Kiva borrower, is 29 years old and has three children. She lives in Kakamega, a town whose surroundings have vast agricultural potential with numerous small farms and large agricultural enterprises. She is a mixed farmer who has worked in this field for five years.

The Covid-19 pandemic has posed a significant threat to the economy of Kenya, causing a lot of uncertainties and disrupting food supply chains. Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, is on the front line combating this pandemic by supporting smallholder farmers and micro-entrepreneurs. Shakilah is seeking this loan to hire laborers who will help improve her production and support her family during this tough economic period.
