A loan helped in the purchase of more chicken boxes.

Margaritas Del Rosario Group's story

Zoila is a woman of Tzutuhil Mayan descent and lives in the "Boca Costa" of Guatemala, in the Department / State of Suchitepéquez. She lives with her husband and 4 children (3 to 12 years old), in a humble house, built of board and sheet. She did not have the opportunity to attend school, yet she has successfully managed the chicken-by-the-pound business for 6 years. Since Zoila's children need care, she prefers to sell her product from home. Three of Zoila's children are enrolled in primary school this year. Zoila requests her2rd Kiva loan, in the purchase of more chicken boxes.

Eight women of the Tzutuhil Mayan ethnic group are determined to get ahead despite the difficult circumstances they are currently experiencing. All the women are members of the Puente de Amistad Community Bank "Margaritas del Rosario" and have businesses that range from corn tortilla shops to making bean flour to prepare atole and artisan chocolate. They also benefit from educational training at their monthly meetings. A facilitator who speaks their own language uses games, pictures and diagrams to share useful information about family, health and business. Every 2 months they have access to health care services, another "Plus" service that is part of the "Microcredit Plus" program (loans, education, medical care). (The children in arms are children of some borrowers).

The women thank the Kiva lenders for financing these much needed loans!
