A loan helped purchase new cell phone accessories for her husband's business and purchase more chickens.

Las Rosas Lindas Group's story

Sonia, 26, is a woman who has great aspirations in life. She thinks that unity is strength and, together with her husband, they provide better living conditions for their four children (aged 2 to 8 years).

Sonia's husband is a mobile phone accessories peddler. For her part, she has three businesses: the sale of traditional second-hand clothes, growing corn, and raising chickens. The income that the couple generates allows them to provide a better quality of life for their children, and primary education for the older child. She is happy because her business is fruitful. Sonia is aware that the success she has obtained is thanks to her diligence, keeping savings, and accessing a loan.

Hoping to continue growing her business, she is applying for her third Kiva loan. She will invest 50% in the purchase of new cell phone accessories to support her husband's business, in addition to using the other 50% of the loan to purchase more chickens.

Sonia and ten other women are from the K’iche ’ethnic group and live in a rural area of the State/Department of Quiché. In addition to access to loans for handicraft businesses (baskets made from palm), chicken raising, agriculture, and shops for daily consumption, women benefit from the training they receive monthly. This is thanks to the Puente de Amistad “Plus” program that combines small loans, formal education and health.

Kiva, in partnership with Friendship Bridge, offers prosperous futures to women, their families and communities. Thank you!
