Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy quality birds that will help improve her poultry business and meet the overwhelming demand for poultry in her area.

Mary's story

Mary (24) is a smallholder farmer who believes that life’s ups and downs should not be viewed as the end, but as an opportunity to learn to improve in life. She lives in the Kitale area of Kenya. To make ends meet and make extra cash, she has been engaging in a small personal business of selling poultry.

The Kitale area is very populated, and the demand for poultry products, including eggs, is very high. Like many farmers from her region, Mary finds poultry farming very enjoyable. Her biggest challenge is meeting the high demand. Mary lacks funds to increase her poultry farming and requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo for 30,000 KES, which she will use to buy poultry.

Many rural farmers in Kenya struggle because they lack a reliable source of financing to fund their farming operations. Being a woman, accessing funds is very challenging, but through Juhudi Kilimo, she is able to buy more poultry. With the loan, she will sell eggs and poultry products to her neighbors and to the local market, which will translate into increased profit margins and an improved income level. Being a visionary woman, she intends to accumulate more profits and expand her poultry sales to other markets. The extra income will be used to permanently change her living conditions.
