Mamadou Ndiaye Group's story

Sira, 28 years old, presides over the group of nine courageous women called Mamadou Ndiaye; this is the first name of a person they hold in high esteem. Sira has been working in farming for three years. She is married to a farmer and they have two children, 7 and 10, who are enrolled in school. She lives in Tambacounda, a region in Senegal where she operates her business like the other group members.

Sira has never been to school; she is a hard-working woman who dreams of having a lot of cattle in order to increase her profits. She stocks up her supply at the weekly markets. After having raised her sheep and goats well, she resells them at the same markets at prices that are favorable to her. This way, she can meet her family's needs and help her husband to cover school fees and care for their children's health.

Just as with other reputable breeders, sheep are chosen more often than goats. Sometimes Sira has to deal with the theft of animals or with diseases which can be a hindrance to achieving her goals.
