Magdaline's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy more farm inputs such as seedlings, seeds, fertilizers and prepare land for the farming season.

Magdaline's story

Most of the Kenyan population directly depends on small-scale farming for their livelihood in the rural areas. Meet Magdaline, who has defied the common thinking of most Kenyans about agriculture. At the age of 32 years she is a proud owner of a farm where she plants maize, tomatoes, and other vegetables. The farm is in Narok.

Magdaline practices agriculture with a difference, employing youthful energy, enthusiasm and knowledge attained from years of experience. To sustain her family, she offers her produce to specific markets with specific needs, thus increasing her revenue.

The major challenge that farmers from Magdaline's area face is unaffordable and scarce farming inputs, meaning that their yields are far below what they could be. Magdaline has applied for a 50,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner, ECLOF KENYA, to buy farming inputs such as certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizer. She will also use her loan to help her prepare a seedbed to start planting.

Magdaline is very determined to succeed. As she is much disciplined with finances, she plans that through accumulated profits, she will be able to provide a secure future for herself and educate her children.
