Shahnaz's Group's story

Shahnaz is a 44-year-old working woman, who makes embroidered dresses to share the financial burden with her husband. She has given birth to three children; two sons and one daughter. Her son is older than the other siblings and reads at a 9th grade level. The younger son reads at a 2nd grade level. Her daughter reads at a 6th grade level. Her husband's name is W. M. and he is an auto-rickshaw (local three-wheeled motor vehicle) driver. He has 10 years of driving experience. Shahnaz and her husband want to provide a good education for their kids because they got their education up to the 10th grade level and would have liked to study further, but due to financial problems they had to leave their education. They do not want the same thing to happen to their kids which is why they work hard and manage their education expenses. They have successfully repaid their first loan to Asasah (microfinance institute of Pakistan and a partner of Kiva) and now are applying for a loan for the second time to repair their rickshaw because its repair is becoming essential now, otherwise its engine seizes up.
