Total loan: $800

Mach Pobor, , Panama / Agriculture

Cecilio's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to plant coffee, avocado and plantain, providing food security and economic opportunities in native indigenous territories during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Cecilio's story

Mr. Cecilio is from the native indigenous territory of Mach Pobor (East Panama in the Darien jungle). He has dedicated himself to the cultivation of plantains, avocado, and coffee for over fifteen years.

Through agriculture, he has been able to educate his five children, some are still in the local schools while the older ones have finished their studies. He does not want his children to experience the difficulties that occurred during his childhood as he only had the opportunity to study up to the third grade.

This loan will allow Mr. Cecilio to make improvements on his farm, like the sowing of coffee and avocado and land preparation for his plantain crop. He has never taken a loan before due to the historical financial exclusion his indigenous community has suffered. He is nervous but also very confident and excited to invest in his farm without the need of waiting one year for his crop production sales.

He has very good references in his community as he is known as a responsible and hard-working man.

Thank you for supporting Mr. Cecilio and joining Global Brigades by providing financial inclusion to indigenous people in Panama.
