Ivan's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to plant coffee, avocado and plantain, providing food security and economic opportunities in native indigenous territories during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ivan's story

Mr. Ivan is from the Embera-Wounaan indigenous territory of Mach Pobor in East Panama. A region that has been historically excluded from basic financial services.

He has dedicated over 18 years to the production of plantain, avocado, and coffee. This has helped him pay for his 4 children’s education, 3 that are currently in school, and one that has finished his studies. He strives every day motivated by the idea of his children having a better life than he had when he was young as he was only able to study up to 9th grade.

As the avocado season is soon, Mr. Ivan has decided to request a loan to help him prepare his farm, buy seeds, and basic equipment to meet the demand of the new season, increasing his production during the Covid-19 pandemic to sell in his community and nearby towns. He has very good references in his community as he is known as a responsible and hard-working man.

Thank you for supporting Mr. Ivan and joining Global Brigades and Kiva by providing financial inclusion to indigenous communities in Panama.
