Mach Pobor, , Panama / Agriculture

Gertrudis's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to plant plantain, avocado and lemon, providing food security and economic opportunities in indigenous territories during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Gertrudis's story

Mr. Gertrudis lives in Mach Pobor, located in the indigenous reservation of Embera-Wounaan (East Panama), the second most biodiverse place in the world. It is inhabited by indigenous groups that have protected their territory for centuries and have been historically excluded from basic financial services. Mach Pobor has no electricity and basic services are limited. The access to this community is by the river on a "Piragua" (wood-made boat) as road access is impossible most of the year.

Mr. Gertrudis has been working in agriculture for over 20 years. His main crops are plantain, avocado and lemon. Although he only went to school up to the 6th grade, he is very grateful to this economic activity and his native land as he has been able to put his 6 kids through school as well as providing a safe home and environment for his family.

He is asking for a loan to support the upcoming sowing season as he needs the capital to properly adequate his farm, increase his revenue and support his family during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thank you for supporting Mr. Gertrudis and joining Global Brigades by providing financial inclusion to indigenous people in Panama.
