A loan helped to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to expand her horticultural farm.

Lucy's story

Lucy, 34, lives in the Kerugoya area of Kenya. Lucy did not have the opportunity to advance her education to get a white-collar job. Her desire to get ahead is admirable, because despite her age and the obstacles she has experienced, she doesn't reduce her efforts to achieve her objectives.

In the Kerugoya area, most people depend on agriculture for a living and work on small farms. Their biggest challenge is lack of capital to start and grow their agricultural businesses.

Lucy is seeking a loan of 20,000 KES to buy certified seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers to expand her horticultural farm. By scaling up, she will reduce production costs and increase output. Lucy's strategy is to use the returns to pay for more farm inputs. A lack of quality inputs closes many farms due to poor yields. She will, therefore, be able to increase her profits to elevate her and her beautiful children's standard of living.
