Mary's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped a single mom to buy seeds in order to improve her crops on her farm.

Mary's story

Dear Kiva lenders, Mary (58) is a single mother of 2 school going children who loves her family.

Mary is a returning borrower and a smallholder farmer, from a remote village in Nyahururu, a town where the main economic activities include agriculture, particularly crops and dairy. Her discovery of farming gave her wings, and now she feels that she can fly towards success.

Mary practices mixed farming on her farm, and, thanks to the profits, she has managed to take care of her family's needs. To earn additional income, Mary makes a commission on sales, because she helps to arrange the logistics of getting farm produce from local farmers to their buyers. She continually makes efforts to build strong relationships, because reputation is everything in her line of work.

Mary requested a loan of KES 40,000 to buy seeds in order to improve the crops on her farm. She wants to take advantage of favorable weather patterns and a good road network in her village.

Mary hopes that, with this loan, she will improve her living conditions. With an improved income, she will be able to provide her children with a secure future and uninterrupted learning, because she will be able to pay tuition fees on time. Mary thanks you for your support.
