A loan helped to purchase quality farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to improve her banana crop.

Veronica's story

Veronica is a 62-year-old mother. Her story is that of an honest, hardworking, and determined woman who does everything she can to raise her lovely children. With very few resources, she has been able to pull through.

Veronica is a responsible and diligent smallholder farmer from the Kitale area of Kenya. She engages in dairy and maize farming. In addition, she manages a side business. Her work generates important household income. The other members of her family help with the work.

Veronica is humbly seeking a loan to purchase quality farm inputs, such as fertilizers, to improve her banana crop. She is optimistic that her harvest this year will be better than the year before. The income from her dairy business will be used to make her initial loan payments until her crops are harvested and sold.

Most microfinance organizations, particularly in the remote areas of Kenya, do not issue loans to smallholder farmers. However, Juhudi Kilimo is different and is expanding into this market. Juhudi Kilimo is pleased to inspire Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenyan smallholder farmers.
