A loan helped to buy seed and fertilizer to improve her tea farm, in order to meet the rising demand, to make profits, and as a humble mum, to turn her life around.

Rudiah's story

Rudiah's childhood reveals a very challenging upbringing with lots of ups and downs. Securing three meals a day was an achievement for her. However, she decided to seek success and start farming. Her main source of income has been wool, tea, milk, eggs, and crop farming, and through these ventures she has supported her family, because she is the breadwinner. Through her commitment and determination, this mum believes that success is inevitable.

The Nyamira region is known as one of the best tea-growing regions. The climatic conditions in the region and the good road networks facilitate tea farming and transportation to the market. Rudiah has realized that demand for tea is rising, and she wants to subdivide her small farm to allow her to grow more tea on her farm. She is taking out this loan to buy seed and fertilizer to improve her tea production. She is confident that with her immense knowledge in tea farming, success is a sure outcome. This loan is therefore an opportunity that she has never had before. Support her at this time when the Covid-19 pandemic has affected food systems, food security, and agricultural livelihoods.
