God Bless You Group's story
Martha D. is the leader of a group of five borrowers called God Bless You. She is 63 years old and a widow with five children who range from 15 to 21 years old. She also cares for two nephews. Martha did not have the opportunity to go to school due to poverty. For 20 years, she has been selling slippers at the Rally Town market in downtown Monrovia, Liberia. Martha started by selling petty goods and fish but has been facing problems with low funds to do business and she lacks a sponsor. She places her goods in an orderly manner in order to keep customers returning. Martha plans to use her 20,000 Liberian Dollar portion of this 80,000 Liberian Dollar group loan to purchase more slippers to improve her business. Her goals and dreams are to improve her business by building a shop and to build a house for her children. In the photo that accompanies this profile, Martha is holding the sign.
