Emily's loan finished fundraising,
but these similar borrowers just need a little more help to reach their goals!

A loan helped to buy farming inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, to help a mother who is a high-flier to improve her farm and thus improve her income.

Emily's story

Emily (36 years old mom of 4 school-going children) is very hardworking and a high-flier. She hails from a remote village in the Nandi hills area of Kenya. This area has tough living conditions, and to survive, you must have tough skin. Emily has defied all of the odds and has chosen to work hard so that she can meet the requirements of her loving family. Emily works on her farm, growing trees and crops and rearing dairy cows. She has not been using farming inputs like nutrient-rich fertilizers and seeds.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer, and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability than earlier.

Emily has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo via Kiva lenders to purchase farming inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizer, to boost the quality of her produce, increase her profits, and elevate her standard of living. The loan you give Emily will have a lasting impact in her heart and she will forever be indebted to the lenders.
